Meet the Therapist

Hello, my name is Helen and I am a qualified Adult Integrative Counsellor.  Many years ago, I made the decision to formally retrain as a counsellor. My background is in music as a piano teacher and over my career I noticed an increasing number of my students experiencing mental health problems. I wanted to understand more about mental health and how I could help others. This then led me to the field of mental health and my newfound career.

My practice offers a gentle, non-judgemental, confidential, and safe space where you can unravel, and perhaps for the first time, acknowledge and process thoughts and feelings you may find difficult to discuss. I can help with feelings of anxiety, despair, worthlessness, worries about the future, sadness, grief, feelings of inadequacy and feelings of being stuck.

I have a particular interest in how the body holds and reacts to various memories and feelings and can help you to understand any uncomfortable physical and emotional responses, by sharing various insight, tools, and techniques to help alleviate their intensity. I work with adults of all ages, background, ethnicity, sexual orientation and neurodivergence.

I firmly believe everyone has the power within themselves to find a road to healing, and I regard it as a privilege, honour, and often humbling experience to travel this journey with you.

Professional Qualifications

I hold qualifications in the following areas:

  • BSc (Hons) Psychology
  • FdSc in Integrative Counselling – Ulster University
  • Cert – Counselling Studies – Ulster University
  • BACP – Online and Telephone Counselling
  • Applied Risk Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • LGBTQIA+ for Advocates & Allies
  • Neurodivergent Awareness

My Style of Therapy

I hold my client’s needs central at all times. Listening intently and moving at your pace, we will work towards developing a trusting relationship to work from. I am a firm believer that ‘a one size approach’ does not fit everyone, therefore my support will be tailored to each client based around their individual needs and goals. In counselling terms, I use humanistic, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioural skills (CBT) and techniques to inform my practice
