Meet the Therapist

Hello my Name is Marie Donaghy, I am a therapist with specific training in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). I recognise the challenges that we all encounter in life and appreciate the huge step it takes to enter counselling; I understand the distress/ anxiety you may be experiencing.

My focus is to enable you to feel safe to share, enabling us to work together prioritising your needs and focusing on a way forward. Counselling offers opportunities for healing and change, I value your voice and the opportunity to support you, I will listen, go at your pace, and create a non-judgemental space. As a therapist I support individuals dealing with a range of Issues, I have a particular interest in Bereavement and Loss, Anxiety, Depression, Trauma and feeling stuck.

I have worked within GP practices and across voluntary and community settings, including with disability / neurodivergent support organisations. I qualified as a therapist in 2019 and am BACP registered (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy).

Professional Qualifications

I hold qualifications in the following areas:

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural therapy
  • BSc Hons Occupational Psychology
  • Bereavement Training Foundation Course
  • Understanding Trauma
  • Neuro Diversity Training
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences Training
  • Telephone Counselling Training

My Style of Therapy

I will tailor my approach to your specific needs and practical therapeutic skills that can assist you. Utilising cognitive behavioural therapy, we will work together to identify patterns, work through your challenges, identify core beliefs, and recognise patterns while building and strengthening your resilience.

Through learning new skills and by identifying negative thoughts, CBT allows a skilled practical model to be learned and developed that you can utilise throughout your life.

I can also utilise creativity, to supplement talking therapy if desired.
