Gestalt Therapy is a humanistic and experiential approach developed by Fritz Perls that focuses on present-moment experience rather than the analysis of past events. The word gestalt refers to the idea of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Rather than talking about your life from a distance, Gestalt therapy works with what is happening in the room right now, including your thoughts, feelings, body sensations, and the therapeutic relationship itself. This immediate, experiential focus helps you develop genuine self-awareness, take responsibility for your experience, and live more fully and authentically.
Present-Moment Awareness
Gestalt therapy works with what is happening right now rather than analysing the past from a distance. By bringing attention to your present experience in the room, including thoughts, feelings and physical sensations, you develop a richer and more honest awareness of yourself.
Contact and Relationship
Central to Gestalt therapy is the quality of contact between you and your therapist. The therapeutic relationship itself becomes a laboratory for exploring how you relate to others, where you make contact and where you withdraw, providing direct and immediate material for growth.
