Person-Centred Therapy was developed by Carl Rogers and is built on the belief that every person has an innate capacity for growth and self-healing, given the right conditions. Those conditions are unconditional positive regard, empathy, and congruence: the therapist's genuine acceptance of you, their ability to understand your experience from the inside, and their own authentic presence in the relationship. Unlike directive approaches, Person-Centred Therapy does not tell you what to think, feel, or do. The therapist trusts you as the expert on your own experience and follows your lead throughout.
Unconditional Positive Regard
Your therapist accepts you without conditions or judgment, regardless of what you bring to the room. This quality of complete acceptance creates a space that many people have never experienced before, one in which it finally feels safe to be fully honest about who you are and what you are carrying.
Empathy and Congruence
Person-Centred Therapy requires the therapist to genuinely understand your experience from the inside and to be authentically present rather than hiding behind a professional role. This real human connection is itself a powerful agent of change.
