The Cycle of Health Anxiety
Health anxiety involves persistent fear about having or developing a serious illness. It is driven by a cycle of bodily hypervigilance, catastrophic interpretation of physical sensations, reassurance seeking, and temporary relief followed by renewed anxiety. Understanding this cycle is the first step towards breaking it, because every reassurance-seeking behaviour -- however rational it feels in the moment -- actually maintains the anxiety it seeks to relieve.
When Health Anxiety Takes Over Daily Life
For many people with health anxiety, the fear of illness becomes a full-time preoccupation. Checking symptoms, repeated visits to the GP, avoidance of medical information, or conversely constant exposure to it can all dominate daily life. Therapy targets the specific beliefs and behaviours that keep health anxiety going, reducing its grip systematically and durably.

Expert Methodologies for Lasting Relief
We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We utilize the gold standard of evidence-based psychological interventions.
Breaking the Reassurance Cycle
The reassurance-seeking behaviours that feel like they manage health anxiety actually maintain it. We work collaboratively to gradually reduce these behaviours in a carefully structured way, breaking the cycle that keeps health anxiety alive and demonstrating that uncertainty is tolerable.
Cognitive Restructuring
Health anxiety is maintained by specific patterns of catastrophic thinking and probability overestimation. Using CBT techniques, we work to identify and challenge these thought patterns, developing a more accurate and proportionate relationship with physical sensations and medical uncertainty.
Building Tolerance for Uncertainty
At its core, health anxiety is a difficulty tolerating uncertainty about health. Our therapists help you develop a genuine capacity to sit with uncertainty without needing to resolve it immediately, which is the most durable and transferable skill you can take from this work.
